
Bathrooms are basically torture chambers for electronics. Between the steam, the random splashes, and the way the temperature swings from freezing to sauna in ten minutes, most heating elements just can’t hack it. They usually burn out in six months, and that’s a pain nobody wants to deal with. We built our infrared towel rails to actually survive in there. Here’s the thing about moisture: it’s sneaky. In a cheap heater, water vapor crawls inside the housing and shorts everything out or rusts the contacts. We fixed that by putting a dedicated anti-fog seal right around the heating element. It keeps the condensation from landing on the electrical terminals. If the guts stay dry, the corrosion doesn’t start. Simple as that. And then there are the splashes. Whether it’s a leaky shower or a kid playing with the faucet, water happens. We used heavy-duty gaskets and sealed joints to make sure that water stays on the outside of the shell. It never even gets close to the live parts. But we hit a snag early on. If you seal a unit too tight, you trap the heat inside, which can fry the wiring. It’s a bit of a balancing act. To solve it, we used high-temp polymers and aluminum heat sinks. They pull the heat away from the seals so the gaskets don’t warp or melt over time. If you’ve ever wired one of these, you’ll see the difference in the terminal blocks. We coated all the contact points to stop that nasty “green crust” you see in humid rooms. It just means the electricity flows smoothly and the hardware isn’t constantly fighting the room it’s in. You get a towel that’s actually warm, and you don’t have to worry about the whole thing dying on you.
