How to Pick the Right Infrared Heater for Your Bathroom
Nobody likes that sudden, freezing shock when you step out of a hot shower and hit the cold air. It’s the worst. But here’s the thing: fixing it isn’t as simple as just buying the most powerful heater you can find. If you go too big, you’re just throwing money away on your electric bill and risking a burnt-out bulb. Go too small? You’re still shivering. It’s all about the size of your room. Finding the sweet spot If you’ve got a tiny powder room—something under 4m²—you don’t need a beast of a heater. A small lamp between 250W and 400W does the trick. It’ll warm you up quickly without turning the room into a sauna. For those medium-sized bathrooms (around 4m² to 8m²), you’ll want to bump that up to 600W or 800W. But once you get into those big master baths over 10m², a single lamp just won’t cut it. You’ll end up with one scorching “hot spot” right under the light while the rest of the room stays ice cold. Instead, try a few smaller lamps—maybe three 400W units—spread across the ceiling. It feels much more natural and keeps the warmth even. A few things to keep in mind These heaters use short-wave infrared, which is great because it warms you, not the air. That’s why you feel the heat the second you flip the switch, even if there’s a draft in the room. Plus, keep an eye on your ceilings. If yours are higher than 2.8 meters, the heat has a longer way to travel and loses its punch before it reaches you. If that’s the case, you might need a bit more wattage or a way to mount the lamp a little lower. One last tip: keep an eye on your wiring. High-wattage lamps pull a lot of power. If you’re installing a bunch of them, double-check your breaker. There’s nothing more annoying than the power cutting out right when you’re getting warm.
