
Making Bathroom Heaters That Won’t Blind You
When we design ceiling heaters for bathrooms, we’re basically fighting a battle between warmth and glare. You want that blast of heat the second you step out of the shower, but nobody wants a spotlight beaming directly into their eyes—especially when you’re bathing a baby. Here’s the thing about standard infrared lamps: they’re usually blinding. That harsh, white light is a nightmare for your eyes. To fix that, we tweak the spectrum. Instead of using basic bulbs, we use specialized quartz envelopes with specific coatings. It’s a bit like putting sunglasses on the heater. We filter out those aggressive, high-energy light frequencies and keep the heat. You get a “soft light” feel that keeps you warm without making you squint. It comes down to a simple bit of physics. The heat comes from the filament’s temperature, but the brightness is all about a specific range of light waves. We tune our lamps to push the energy into the infrared bands where your body actually absorbs the heat. The light is just a side effect. Since you don’t need a tanning bed in your bathroom, we keep that side effect as low as possible. Now, there is a small trade-off. Because of those coatings, the lamps take a few seconds longer to warm up than a clear tube would. You also lose a tiny bit of raw brightness. But let’s be honest: in a bathroom, extra brightness is a nuisance, not a feature. If you’re installing these, they’re designed to slide right into standard fixtures. Just a heads-up: these tubes run hot. Make sure your wiring can handle the wattage and that your housing has plenty of airflow. If the air can’t move, the internal circuits will fry, and that’s a headache nobody wants.
