
Keeping Locker Rooms Warm Without the Headache
Trying to heat a changing room or a locker area is a bit of a nightmare. You’ve got constant humidity, water splashing everywhere, and usually a cold draft that makes people shiver the second they step out of the shower. That’s why we stick with IP44 infrared heaters. Most heaters try to warm up the air, which is a losing battle in a drafty room. These are different. They send out shortwave radiation that hits your skin and the benches directly. You don’t have to wait for the room to “warm up”—you feel the heat the moment you step under them. It’s instant.
What “IP44” Actually Means for You
In plain English, the IP44 rating just means the unit is built to handle a messy environment. It keeps out small bits of debris and, more importantly, it handles water splashes from any angle. We build these so you don’t have to worry about moisture sneaking into the electrical terminals or causing a short circuit while someone is scrubbing the floors. Inside, there’s a quartz halogen tube. We go with high wattage here because these areas are usually wide open. Since the heat doesn’t rely on moving air, it doesn’t matter if the room is freezing when you turn them on. They just work.
A Couple of Things to Watch Out For
Now, there’s a catch. Because those quartz tubes get incredibly hot, you can’t just mount them anywhere. If they’re too low, someone might accidentally touch one and get burned. We’ll help you figure out the right clearance to keep everyone safe. Also, a heads-up on the wiring: these lamps pull a lot of power the second they kick in. If your electrical panel is a bit old or undersized, you’re going to trip the breaker every time you flip the switch. Make sure your circuit breakers can handle that initial surge.
Keeping Them Running
Humid rooms are brutal on equipment. To fight that, we use housings that won’t corrode. The quartz glass is tough, but it has one weakness: fingerprints. If you touch the tubes with your bare hands, the oils from your skin create “hot spots.” When the heater cycles up, those spots can actually cause the glass to crack. Keep your hands off the tubes, keep the reflectors clean so the heat actually goes where it’s supposed to, and these things will last you a long time.
