
Why Your Infrared Heaters Actually Die (and How to Fix It)
Ever wonder why a bathroom heater just… stops working? Most people blame the heating element. But here’s a secret: the element is usually fine. The real culprit is almost always the spot where the lead wires plug into the quartz tube. In the cheap stuff, this joint is a total disaster waiting to happen. It gets hot, it cools down, and it does that over and over. Eventually, the insulation just gets brittle and snaps. Then comes the carbonization, a short circuit, and—poof—no more heat.
What’s actually happening in there?
Infrared lamps get incredibly hot in very specific spots. If the seal around those wires isn’t built for that kind of heat, the plastic jacket starts to shrink and crack. Once that seal opens up, the humidity from your bathroom creeps in. Moisture and electricity don’t mix. You get arcing, the wire burns out, and you’re left with a dead heater. We use high-temp silicone or ceramic-glass composites to stop this. The goal is to keep things airtight but flexible. It stops the wires from “breathing”—that expanding and contracting motion that usually rips a cheap seal right open.
The difference is in the process
A lot of assembly lines just slap on some glue and call it a day. That doesn’t work. We use a vacuum-compression process. It sounds fancy, but it basically just means we make sure the sealant actually hugs the wire and the tube perfectly. No air pockets. Why does that matter? Because air pockets act like tiny insulators in all the wrong places. They create hotspots that literally cook the wire from the inside out.
A quick heads-up on installation
There is a trade-off. Because our seals are tougher, the wire exit is a bit more rigid. Don’t force a sharp bendright at the seal. If you try to cram it into a tiny chassis with a tight kink, you’re going to stress the insulation. Just give the wires a bit of room to curve naturally. It takes a tiny bit more space in your housing, but it’s the only way to make sure your heaters are still running strong a year from now instead of shorting out after six months.
