Dealing with the damp If you see “IPX4,” it basically means the unit can take a splash from any direction without freaking out. In a bathroom, steam and stray sprays are the biggest threats to your electronics. Most old heaters have these annoying gaps in the housing where moisture just creeps in. We’ve sealed our infrared units tight. By keeping water away from the live terminals, you don’t have to worry about corrosion or the heating element burning out way sooner than it should. The magic of infrared Here is the big difference: traditional heaters try to warm up the air. That takes forever. Infrared is different. A few things to keep in mind You’ll need a dedicated GFCI outlet to get these wired in—standard safety stuff for any bathroom. Also, a quick heads-up: while these handle splashes beautifully, they aren’t submarines. Don’t install them right under a high-pressure shower head. If they get blasted constantly, mineral deposits from your water can build up on the lens. Over time, that gunk blocks the rays and you’ll notice the heat dropping off.
