
Keeping Things Warm (and Safe) in the Bathroom
Most infrared lamps just blast out a wide range of light. That’s fine for a warehouse, but in a bathroom—or worse, a nursery—it’s a problem. You want that cozy, radiant heat, but you don’t want to blast a baby’s sensitive eyes with harsh blue light or a blinding glare. Here is how we actually handle that. Protecting the eyes Most of these lamps use a tungsten filament inside quartz. To make them safe for the eyes, we don’t just leave them as-is. We use special coatings or “doped” filaments to shift the light. Basically, we block out those short, aggressive blue and violet wavelengths. It stops the light from being toxic to the eyes, while the heat stays right where it belongs—in the long-wave and mid-wave range. The result? You get all the warmth, but the light stays soft and dim. Dealing with the damp Water and electricity don’t mix. Period. That’s why we use IP-rated housings to keep moisture far away from the electrical terminals. We also nest the lamps in reflectors that push the heat straight down where you actually need it. One thing to watch out for is wattage density. If a lamp runs too hot and the coating isn’t perfect, you risk a flash of glare. We balance the power so your skin feels that “ahhh” moment of warmth immediately, without the light becoming a distraction. The trade-offs Look, there’s no such thing as a free lunch. When you filter out those wavelengths to protect the eyes, you lose a tiny bit of heating efficiency. You might notice it takes a few seconds longer to reach the perfect temperature compared to a raw quartz tube. But if you’re putting this in a nursery, that’s a trade you have to make. Safety first. One last pro tip: wire these into their own dedicated circuit. When multiple units kick on at once, the initial power surge can trip your breakers if they’re too low-amp. Just a heads-up to save you a trip to the fuse box.
